25-years experience and licensed in three countries (UK, USA (TX, NC and TN), Canada) practicing academic cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine. Extensive global network of academic contacts in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Awarded tenure in 3 prestigious North American University Systems (Duke, Vanderbilt, U of A). Holds a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management from Vanderbilt University. Has authored 4 textbooks and more than 200 original publications, with an h-index of 70. Third highest-cited investigator in perioperative medicine (>15,000 citations).

Research career spanning wet lab (bench), observational and interventional clinical trials focused on candidate interventions and programs that prevent and treat adverse outcomes following cardiac surgery, in particular acute kidney injury. Research has been continuously funded by the commercial sector, National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Defense and private philanthropy; results published in NEJM, Lancet, JAMA and leading Anesthesiology journals. 20 years service to Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA), including Scientific Program Committee (Chair), Board of Directors (Sec-Treas), and now current position as President Elect. Committed to making the perioperative cardiac surgical experience as safe and efficient as possible.
