Research Interests
I am interested in ecology and evolution of antimicrobial resistance and, in particular, how genetic background predefines the emergence of resistance. Most of the current experimental evidence is based on a handful of “model” bacterial strains isolated from a patient long time ago. In our work, we use a large collection of Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates, to see how the differences in their genomes would affect the outcomes of antibiotic treatment.
In addition, I am generally interested in evolutionary biology, including the interplay of ecological/epidemiological and evolutionary processes, the interaction of demographic dynamics and genetic drift, and host-parasite coevolution.
