His main research interest focused on the relationship between oxidative stress and inflammatory response in the genesis of atherosclerosis and its cardiovascular complications. In particular, Andrea Mezzetti pioneered the role of cyclooxygenase-2 and mPGE synthase in the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic plaque rupture and acute coronary syndromes.
