Dr. Clements-Cortés is assistant professor, University of Toronto, Faculty of Music (MaHRC); music therapy instructor and graduate supervisor, Wilfrid Laurier University; music therapist, Baycrest Centre, Toronto and a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, CRPO.
Clements-Cortés began her career as a music therapist, performer, and vocal teacher and obtained her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Toronto. Her extensive clinical experience involves working with a variety of clients in fields including geriatrics, adult psychiatry, palliative care, learning disabilities, developmental delays, cognitive impairment, Parkinson’s, stroke, and so forth.
Her work has been presented throughout the world at numerous conferences, including those of the World Federation of Music Therapy, European Music Therapy Congress, American Music Therapy Association, and the International Congress on Palliative Care. Dr. Clements-Cortés’s scholarly writings have been published in the Journal of Music Therapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, Music and Medicine, Barcelona Publications, Sage Encyclopedias, Annals of Long-Term Care, and the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She serves on the editorial review board of Music Therapy Perspectives, Journal of Music Therapy, Voices, Global Journal of Health Science, and Austin Palliative Care. Dr. Clements-Cortés has produced several recordings, including Soothing Relaxation Journeys and Episodes of Relationship Completion.
Clements-Cortés is actively engaged in service and volunteer work. She is President of the World Federation of Music Therapy and managing editor of Music and Medicine. In the past, she has served as a president, internship chair, conference chair and co-chair for the Canadian Association for Music Therapy.
