Amare Tariku

Amare Tariku is working as faculty and researcher at the Department of Human Nutrition, Institute of Public Health, University of Gondar, Ethiopia. Amare worked as clinical and public health expert at the rural hospital in Ethiopia for about five years. After earning his master’s degree in Human Nutrition (in 2013), Amare joined University of Gondar as faculty. Amare has 10 years of research experience, mainly focusing on maternal and child nutrition, infectious diseases, implementation and health system research. Amare received PhD in Public Health. His doctoral dissertation was on prevention and treatment of childhood pneumonia, which was part of the national implementation research project evaluating effectiveness of the Optimizing Health Extension Program on utilization of community-based child health services. Now, Amare is doing his postdoctoral research on infant nutrition in Ethiopia. Amare published more than 60 articles as a principal and co-author at international peer-reviewed journals. Amare received a young researcher gold medal award for his outstanding performance in public health research in Ethiopia. He is co-investigator of the Dabat Research Center, and affiliated staff (researcher) at Karolinska Institutet (Sweden) and Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (Ethiopia). Amare has been providing technical supports in design and implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Strategy. He is secretary for the national Scale-Up-Nutrition academia network and member for the national nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Steering Committee. Amare has been supervising postgraduate and graduate students from human nutrition and varied public health disciplines.
