Bio
My research is primarily devoted to climate scenario development, understanding of climate extremes, and environmental data science. This work supports Environment and Climate Change Canada’s ministerial mandate to implement the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change and the priority “equipping Canadians to make informed decisions on weather, water and climate conditions”. My goal is to provide credible information on past, present, and future climate conditions to support climate change adaptation and mitigation actions. This involves a focus on scientific issues that underpin the delivery of climate services, including developing and applying statistical methods to gain new understanding of past, present, and future changes in climate extremes, which are key for supporting engineering and infrastructure design and assessment of natural resources. My work spans a wide range of climate data and analysis topics, from developing new statistical methods for climate scenario development and extreme value analysis; assessing the impact of climate change on infrastructure codes and standards; advancing fundamental understanding of Canada’s hydroclimatology; and leveraging new machine learning methods to gain insights into environmental processes.
