个人简介
I am an Associate Professor and Co-director of the Circular Economy Lab at UCL. From Sept 2019, I become the Programme Director of our very popular Masters degree course - MSc in Environmental Systems Engineering.
I am serving as the European Editor of Environmental Engineering Science, the official journal of the Association of Environmental Engineering & Science Professors (AEESP). I am also a member of the peer review panel for British Council Newton Fund and a Judge for Global CleanTech Challenge. I hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering and Clean Energy Technology from UCL.
My research interest lies in bioresource technology and sustainability, with two key focus areas.
The first area of my research is focused on developing quantitative sustainability methods and tools to support the design and delivery of technology and infrastructure, using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach. My research integrates environmental LCA, life cycle costing (LCC) and social LCA to support decision making, including energy, water, food, and waste services.
For this area of research, I have contributed my LCA expertise to many projects including the £27m BBSRC Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (2010-2015). My ongoing projects including the €5.5m H2020 project (NOMAD) on developing biofertiliser from biogas effluent, £4.4m Innovate UK project (the Power Drive Line) on solid state battery design, and two EPSRC funded projects - Bottom Up Infrastructure and Engineering Comes Home.
The second area of my research is focused on bioresource technology, recovering valuable chemicals and energy from biomass, including anaerobic digestion (AD), biorefinery, and advanced biofuel from biomass. My lab is equipped with state of art facilities including BMP and auto-fed digesters.
For this area of research, I am involved in various AD and biofuel projects in the UK, Asia (China and India) and South America (Chile, Colombia and Haiti), including closing the loop waste-energy-food: applying anaerobic digestate in urban agriculture, food waste AD in China, co-designing AD systems with artisanal fishing communities in Colombia.
My team consists of the following members:
1. Dr Mairi Black (Senior Research Fellow)
2. Haodong Lin (Research Assistant)
3. Sarah Hunter (PhD student)
4. Xiaowen Zhu (PhD student)
5. Berill Takacs (PhD student)
6. Mingjie Yi (PhD student)
7. Dr Judy Zhang (visiting researcher)
8. Dr Rob White (Visiting researcher)
