Ahmed is a medical doctor by training and a public health professional, currently working as a Research Associate in Clinical Analytics and Patient Safety for the NIHR Patient Safety Translational Research Centre (PSTRC), Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College London.
He rejoined Imperial College in 2020, coming from the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) where he worked as a Consultant in Quality and Patient Safety, more broadly in Health System Development. He contributed to various WHO missions in and for different countries, such as Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Yemen.
Earlier, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College London, directly after finishing his postgraduate studies at the same university.
He has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh) from Alexandria Faculty of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health from Imperial College London pursued with the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Award for global leaders.
Ahmed worked for two years as a Physician and Medical Coordinator for the United Nations (UNHCR) Health Program for Refugees in Egypt, in alliance with the Arab Medical Union. His duties included; coordinating secondary and tertiary healthcare services for refugees; emergency and chronic healthcare services for refugees and asylum seekers in detention centres; coordinating emergency healthcare for SGBV (Sexual- and Gender-Based Violence) cases; representing the Arab Medical Union at the UN Child Protection Working Group in Alexandria working group; also contributing to monitoring and project-planning for the health program across Egypt's North Coast.
Additionally, Ahmed was chosen as one of the best Arab youth leaders as a founder and project manager of an innovative educational program promoting for health literacy, which was nominated as one of the most promising youth initiatives in the Arab World by Safirlab Leadership Program organized by the French Institute in Paris 2014 and Tunis 2015.
Moreover, in the field of entrepreneurship, Ahmed was an invited speaker representing Arab youth at the First International Forum for Renewal of the Arab World "Thinkers&Doers" that was held at the Arab World Institute in Paris, France, in 2015.
In the field of science communication, Ahmed was one of the top three science communicators in Egypt in 2014 upon winning an international science communication competition called Famelab, organized internationally by the British Council in 30 countries worldwide. He was a member of Egypt’s representative team in the international finals of the competition in Cheltenham, UK 2014. In July 2018, he was a judge in the scientific posters' competition during the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF-2018) and provided a joint-training about science communication skills for the winning projects. He also delivered many science communication workshops in Egypt as a representative figure for Famelab.
