Adam A. Stokes (Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. (Hons.) degree in electronics and electrical engineering from The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, U.K., in 2006, the M.Res. degree in biomedical science from the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, U.K., in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry and microelectronic engineering from The University of Edinburgh, in 2010. He holds degrees in engineering, biomedical science, and chemistry. He is currently a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Deputy Head of the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems, The University of Edinburgh, and the Deputy Director of the CDT in Robotics and Autonomous Systems in the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics. He is also the Director of the Soft Systems Group, an interdisciplinary research laboratory of around 20 researchers. He is the Programme Director for M.Sc. Electronics in The School of Engineering. His research interests include robotics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, optics, proteomics, and cell biology. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the UK-RAS Network, a member of the OGTC Academic Panel, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters. Before joining the faculty at Edinburgh, he was a Fellow of the George M. Whitesides Group, Harvard University. He is an Emeritus Member of The Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Young Academy of Scotland.
