Bio
A. R. Peaker received the B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., and D.Sc. (in 1986) degrees from The University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K.
In 1967, he was with the semiconductor company Ferranti, where he was responsible for the development of the world's first commercial visible LEDs. He continued to work in the semiconductor industry in the U.K. and USA for ten years on III–V compounds and silicon materials. Then, he returned to The University of Manchester, where his work focused on defects in semiconductors. He became a Professor of electronic materials in 1989 and Emeritus Professor in 2008. Of his 300 publications, about 200 are on defects in semiconductors and at semiconductor dielectric interfaces.
Dr. Peaker is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He was awarded the 1993 National Physical Laboratory Prize for Measurement for his invention of Laplace deep-level transient spectroscopy and a Royal Academy of Engineering Foresight Award in 1997 to spend a year at the High Magnetic Field Lab, Grenoble, France, to develop novel techniques to study defects in electronic materials.
