Anna Louise Meredith

Anna Meredith is Professor of Zoological and Conservation Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Between 2018 and 2022 she was Head of Melbourne Veterinary School, University of Melbourne. Her interests and expertise lie at the interface between animal, human and ecosystem health (One Health), the conservation of biodiversity, and wildlife population health. Professor Meredith graduated from the University of Oxford (MA Physiological Sciences), University of Cambridge (Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine) and University of Edinburgh (PhD), and is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Recognised Specialist in Zoological Medicine and a European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM) Specialist in Wildlife Population Health. She has over 30 years veterinary clinical, teaching and research experience in wild animal health and welfare At the University of Edinburgh she has held a variety of roles within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, including Head of the Exotic Animal and Wildlife Unit, Head Veterinary Surgeon for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's Edinburgh Zoo, College Director of Postgraduate Taught programmes and Associate Dean International. Professor Meredith chaired the UK government's Zoos Expert Committee for 10 years and advised Scottish Government as a member of the Scottish Science Advisory Council. She was awarded an OBE in 2019 for services to animal welfare and the veterinary profession. During her time in Australia Professor Meredith served as a Member of the Management Committee of Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) and on the Boards of Zoos Victoria and the Centre for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA).
