My translational research program is focused on the clinical and molecular abnormalities of the lung that lead to severe asthma in children. Whereas children with mild-to-moderate asthma have a favorable response to low-dose inhaled corticosteroid treatment, children with severe asthma have ongoing symptoms and persistent airway inflammation despite high doses of inhaled and even oral corticosteroids.
