Bio
Dr. Grunfeld is both a basic scientist and clinical investigator whose research has focused on metabolic effects of cytokines, infection, & inflammation, endocrine, metabolic and body composition composition disturbances in HIV/AIDS, wasting in AIDS and the metabolic changes due to antiretroviral therapy. His laboratory defines the physiology and molecular biology of these changes, and then determines the consequences with regard to host defense and atherosclerosis.
Dr. Grunfeld serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Lipid Research and has served on the editorial boards for AIDS, the American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has authored numerous articles in the areas of endocrinology and infectious diseases. Professional societies of which he is a member include the American Society for Clinical Investigation, American Diabetes Association, the International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research and the International AIDS Society.
After receiving a BS in biology from Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, Dr. Grunfeld received a PhD in pharmacology and his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He completed his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and at Harvard Medical School. He did a fellowship in Endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health.
